Redeemer Royal soccer players are being rewarded for a great start to the season. Following a 5-1 start this past week, both teams have come out of the gate flying and are now being honored for it.
Yesterday, the OCAA released the Provincial top 5 rankings and the undefeated Lady Royals are ranked #5. A 3-0 start has them sitting tied for second place in the OCAA west division behind the 4-0 Humber Hawks. The women's soccer teams has also been named the OCAA Team of The Week for their undefeated start.
Women's soccer goalkeeper Shawna Druif recorded 3 clean sheets this past week and as a result has been recognized by the OCAA as the Women's Soccer Female Athlete of the Week and the overall OCAA Athlete of the Week! The Lady Royals have yet to concede a goal.
Veteran soccer players Ashley Grootenboer and Taylor Prins have been named the Redeemer Royals Athlete's of the Month for September. Grootenboer, who plays centre back, has been instrumental in the Lady Royals early success. Controlling the back line, Grootenboer's ability to lead the Royals defense has put the women's team in the position of being 1 of only 2 teams in the entire OCAA to yet conceed a goal. Taylor Prins has been an offensive presence for the men's team scoring in each of the games in September. Prins goal on September 28th against Niagara was the first goal scored at the new soccer complex in a men's soccer game.
Congratulations to the women's soccer team, to Shawna Druif, Ashley Grootenboer, and Taylor Prins on your accomplishments!
