Trio of Local Athletes Sign with Redeemer Women's Basketball
ANCASTER, ON - Redeemer Women's Basketball welcomes a trio of local recruits from the Dundas Dynamo. Head Coach
Jesse VanHouwelingen welcomes Sophia Van Raalte, Ava VanHouwelingen and Zoe DeJonge.
Sophia Van Raalte comes to the Royals from the Dundas Dynamo and Guido de Bres. The Ancaster, ON native shared her enthusiasm about joining the Royals, stating, "I'm most excited to be part of a team that shares my love for Jesus. I look forward to forming deep, meaningful relationships with my coaches and teammates who will not only challenge me to be a better athlete but also a stronger follower of Christ. Being a Royal means growing together in faith while competing with purpose."Â
Ava VanHouwelingen, a Shooting Guard from Dundas, ON, is a familiar face to the program. The incoming recruit is a valued addition and will look to make an immediate impact.Â
VanHouwelingen previously played for Hamilton District Christian High School, and was a member of the Dundas Dynamo. During her time at Hamilton District Christian High School, she achieved significant success, being a two-time OFSAA Bronze Medalist. Additionally, with the Dundas Dynamo she has participated in the OBA Division 1 and OBLX, earning silver and bronze medals in recent years.
When asked about her time at Redeemer, VanHouwelingen said, "I will use my faith to guide how I compete and interact with others as a student-athlete at Redeemer. My goal is to reflect Christ in both my actions and attitude on and off the court. By keeping Christ at the center, I hope to make my time at Redeemer not just about athletic success, but about being a reflection of my beliefs and growing in my relationship with God."
Zoe DeJonge, a point guard, has officially joined the Redeemer Royals Women's Basketball team. Previously, DeJonge played for Hamilton District Christian High School and the Dundas Dynamo.
During her time at Hamilton District Christian High School, DeJonge was recognized as the Female Athlete of the Year. She is also a two-time OFSAA Bronze medalist, showcasing her skills and contributions to her former team's success.
DeJonge expressed her enthusiasm about joining the Royals, stating, "I am most excited for the Christian community. I am looking forward to playing to glorify and represent God alongside other Christian players and coaches. I have always felt very welcomed on the team and at home in the gym."
The Redeemer Royals are excited to welcome Van Raalte, VanHouwelingen, and DeJonge to the RU Royal Family. These student-athletes are a strong fit at Redeemer athletically, academically, and spiritually.
