September 2017 Female Athlete of the Month

It has been another solid start to the season for Redeemer's Rachel Hoekstra. One of Redeemer's most consistent Cross Country runners over the past 3 years, Hoekstra continues to lead the women's team every race.

This September, she finished in 12th place at the Fanshawe Invitational, the host of the 2017 OCAA Cross Country Championship and in 12th place at the Seneca Invitational. She completed the Fanshawe course in a time of 25:57 and crossed the line at Seneca with a time of 27:06.

Despite the change in distance in 2017 from 5km to 6km, Rachel hasn't missed a step. She will look to continue to improve in preparation for the Championships on October 28th.

When did you start running?
Ever since I was little. The first time I had an opportunity to run a cross country race, I ran. So it's always been a thing in my life.

What's your Major?
I'm double majoring in French and Psychology

Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult

What's one thing you've crossed off your bucket list?
Hiking along the coast of Italy

If you could only eat one food every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Peanut butter!

What's your favourite form of potato?
All potatoes are great, they may be my favourite food.....hash browns.

What does it mean to you to have been chosen as the Redeemer Athlete of the Month?
It's an honour because hard work pays off.
