It's been 10 years since a Women's Soccer player has been named the Redeemer Female Athlete of the Year. Phoebe Mitton received the honor after the 2009-2010 season. Fast forward to this season and the streak is over. 4th year midfielder Serena Dejong is now the reigning Athlete of the Year. 
 
DeJong was exceptional for the Royals in 2019-2020, guiding both the outdoor and indoor soccer teams through to the OCAA Provincial Championships. As hosts of the 2019 Outdoor Soccer Championship, Redeemer automatically qualified. However, the Royals, led by DeJong, held their own against the eventual National Championship bound Seneca Sting in the quarterfinals. DeJong finished the outdoor soccer season as the leading scorer for Redeemer. 
 
DeJong once again led the Royals through the Indoor Soccer season. She finished with 8 total goals in competition as the offense ran through her. Redeemer advanced to the Royal Cup Final, finished second in the OCAA Regional, and qualified for the OCAA Indoor Championship after a 2 year hiatus. 
 
DeJong was named MVP for the Redeemer Royals Indoor Soccer team.
