Road Trip Split

Volleyball Teams both go 1-1 on Weekend Road Trip

Both Men's and Women's Volleyball teams were in action this past weekend. The Royals were on the road at Fanshawe College on Friday and at St. Clair College on Saturday. Both Men's and Women's teams split their weekend games picking up 1 win and 1 loss each.

The Lady Royals picked up their first win of the season on Saturday sweeping the Saints 3-0. The Lady Royals won 25-17, 25-22, and 25-23. Curtiss Straatsma (Brampton, ON) had a game-high 17 points and a game high 13 digs. She led both teams in kills with 11. Charlene DeVries (Mossley, ON) had a strong game offensively for Redeemer as well with 6 kills, 1 ace and 4 blocks.

The previous night, a strong Fanshawe team outmatched the Royals as they fell 3-0. Game scores were 25-19, 25-11, and 25-22. Curtis Straatsma had 12 points for Redeemer. Shelby Charlton had 11 points for Fanshawe.

The women's team now improves their record to 1-2.

The men's team did the opposite of the women's team as they beat the Falcons on Friday night but fell to the Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Men's team swept Fanshawe on Friday 3-0 and lost to St. Clair 3-1 on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Royals went up early with a 25-21 win but failed to win another game as the Saints won 3 straight for the 3-1 win. Game scores were 25-21, 16-25, 21-25, and 20-25. The Royals had a tough time defending Saints player Conner West who had a game-high 17 kills. For Redeemer, David Klomps (Surrey, BC) had 13 total points while Eric Heidbuurt (Waterdown, ON) added 10. Jesse Dykxhoorn (Holland Marsh, ON) led both teams with 12 digs.

Friday night saw the Royals sweep a strong team in the Fanshawe Falcons. The Royals balanced attack had 3 players in double figures (David Klomps, Timon Moolman, and Eric Heidbuurt) while Jesse Dykxhoorn had 20 digs for Redeemer. Game scores were 27-25, 25-18, and 26-24.

The men's team record moves to 1-2 on the season.

Both Volleyball teams travel to Canadore and Nipissing on Friday and Saturday for 4 big games up North!
