Offensive Woes Continue

Lady Royals drop second 2-0 game of the season

Another stormy evening, another strong defensive effort for Redeemer, but another 2-0 loss for the Lady Royals Soccer team in a match up against the Niagara Knights on Wednesday evening.

"Overall our team intensity was the difference", said Head Coach Caell Huyer. "Niagara came out ready to play. Looking forward to Fanshawe on Saturday, we will need to be ready when the whistle blows"

While the Royals struggled with creating offensive opportunities in their first game of the season, Redeemer looked more dangerous on offense against Niagara. Huyer was pleased with the chance from game one, "as a team we generated a more balanced attack then we did in our first game of the season. Through more practice and some more working together we should be able to pull it together".

Niagara opened up the scoring in the 26th minute when Kayla Cassar got on the end of a bouncing ball in the 18 yard box. The shot struck the crossbar and deflected in.

The teams entered halftime with Niagara up 1-0.

Redeemer came out stronger in the 2nd half and  played more balanced with a number of chances on goal. The Royals pushed hard early in the second half and had Niagara on their heels. Redeemer's best chance came in the 53rd minute when 2nd year Mary Christiannse was send in on a foot race against one of Niagara's defenders. Christiannse got to the ball first and struck the ball well but drifted just wide as it sailed over the keeper.

Redeemer's inability to find the back of the net eventually cost them as another goal by Niagara's Lexi Gilby in the 72nd minute eliminated the possibility of a comeback for the Royals.

Redeemer's record now falls to 0-2 as the Royals will need to climb out of this early season hole. The Lady Royals will get their next crack at getting into the win column on Saturday with a tilt against the Fanshawe Falcons in London at 12:00pm.
