Winning when it counts will be an important theme for the Redeemer Women's Volleyball team this season. As the host of the 2014-2015 Provincial Championship, the Royals have an automatic bye into the event and will certainly need to show that, with a free pass, they can win when it counts. It appears that that skill was on display this past weekend as the Royals traveled to Oakville in a league match up against the Sheridan Bruins.
Exactly one week prior, the Lady Royals dropped two games to the Bruins in an exhibition tournament in Oakville. One of those games was the Championship final. On Saturday, Redeemer exacted their revenge in a 5 set marathon winning 25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 25-27, 15-12.
It was an offensive battle as the teams combined for 135 total points. Three Lady Royals hit double digit points as
Curtiss Straatsma (Brampton, ON) had a game high 24 points,
Charlene De Vries (London, ON) had 15, and
Mary Christiaanse (Trenton, ON) added 14.
The undefeated Lady Royals (OCAA 2-0) will now return to Redeemer for their home opener on Friday against the undefeated Humber Hawks (OCAA 2-0).
