Redeemer Men's Basketball grabs tough win on road in London

The Redeemer Royals made the best of a daunting situation on Wednesday night as the Men's Basketball team found a way to win in a difficult environment in London.

Always a tough gymnasium to play in, Redeemer entered the home of the Fanshawe Falcons, putting pressure on them from the start and securing a hard-fought 83-71 victory.

Redeemer built a strong lead in the first half, entering the break with a 38-23 advantage on the backs of some very strong defensive play.

Fanshawe clawed back in the second half, shrinking the deficit to just 2 points in the 4th quarter. However, Redeemer did not back down and countered Fanshawe's scoring with scoring of their own. Redeemer slowly built their lead back up late in the 4th quarter as the Royals only trailed once in the entire match.

The Falcons went up 1-0 in the first seconds of the match before a 3 pointer by Redeemer gave the Royals the lead for good.

Newcomer and Nazareth College transfer Rayvon Higdon had a game high 24 points for Redeemer. Higdon narrowly missed out on a triple-triple with 24 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds.

Nathan Di Loreto had 15 points for Redeemer and played a huge role for the Royals down the stretch. Calvin DeJong also added 15 points with a strong shooting performance hitting 5 3-pointers for Redeemer.

The Royals take their 1-0 record on the road next week for their second away match of the season when they travel to Niagara College on Wednesday.
