It was an impressive home debut for the Lady Royals on Friday night as Redeemer dominated the Sheridan Bruins for their first win of the season. The Royals grabbed an early first quarter lead on route to an 86-48 win over the visitors.
The Royals fed off the energy of a loud, packed gym as Redeemer looked comfortable and in control from start to finish. The home team ran out to a 15-1 lead to start the match, finishing the quarter up 25-5.
Sheridan was able to keep pace with Redeemer in the 2nd quarter scoring 16 points to Redeeemer's 19. However, the Royals came out of the half putting the pressure on the visitors once again, working hard to not let the Bruins back in the game. 41 second half points did the trick for Redeemer as the Bruins were unable to close any gaps in the score.
Redeemer's
Rebekah Couperus led all scorers with 21 points while OCAA All-stars
Lindsay Moffatt and
Jesseca Brown each added 15.
Coming off of a pair of road losses to start the sesaon, the Royals will look to take their strong home performance with them as they travel to Cambrian College next week for a Friday/Saturday double-header against the Golden Shield.
