It wasn't how they drew it up but the Redeemer Royals Men's Volleyball team earned their 7th win of the season on Saturday in a hard-fought win against the St. Clair Saints. Down 2-0 in the match, the Royals rallied to avoid the upset and improved their record to 7-3 on the season.
Redeemer narrowly avoided losing their opening match of 2016 after the 2-8 Saints dominated the visiting Royals over the first two sets, winning 25-21 and 25-11. From there, Redeemer won 3 straight sets by a total of 6 points (25-23, 25-23, 15-13) as the Saints threw everything they had at the Royals in a solid effort on home court.
1st year Jeff Ekeanyanwu led the Royals with 14 points from 9 kills, 1 ace, and 4 blocks.
Shawn Brus had a team-high 11 kills.
Despite the tricky opening match for the Men's Volleyball team, the win helps the Royals keep pace with the rest of the OCAA West Division.
Redeemer currently sits in a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the West. The Royals take their 7-3 record on the road again on Tuesday as they make there way to Conestoga College.
