After three matches on the road for the volleyball teams to begin the 2016-17 season, the Royals returned home to the confines of their own gym on Friday night. Backed by their huge home crowd, the men's team rallied from being down 2-1 to the Niagara Knights to win a tight 5 set match.
The Royals easily took the first set against the visitors 25-18 before dropping the next two as the Knights gained momentum winning 25-22 and 25-21.
Not wanting to disappoint their home fans, Redeemer returned to their 1st set form, winning the 4th 25-21 and cruising through the 5th set 15-7.Â
After starting the season 0-2, the men's team has now won 2 in a row against the Sheridan Bruins and Niagara Knights.Â
Newcomer Linden Bontkes led all scorers with 15 kills while Jeff Ekeanyanwu had a team high 5 blocks.Â
Earlier in the evening, the Lady Royals struggled to compete with the strong visiting team from Niagara. The Knights swept Redeemer 3-0 with set scores 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.
The Royals record fell to 2-2.
