After spending the first couple weeks of the season on the road, the Men's Basketball team finally returned home for the highly anticipated home opener. The Royals used the crowd, their energy, and a high-intensity pace to leave the visiting Falcons shell-shocked en route to a 108-79 victory on Saturday night. The impressive 108 points for the home side was the highest point total ever scored in a league or playoff game in Redeemer Men's Basketball program history.
After starting the season 0-2, the Royals played like they had something to prove, putting up 34 1st quarter points and limiting the Falcons to just 12. The lead continued to grow throughout the match as the Royals entered the 4th quarter with a 40 point lead before putting on the brakes and cruising to the win.
Fanshawe entered the match with a 4-2 record before hitting the road block in Ancaster.
Redeemer's
Rayvon Higdon lead all scorers with 28 points to continue his strong start to the season, averaging 24.0 ppg and sitting in 2nd in the OCAA.
Outside Higdon's performance, the Royals relied on balanced scoring from the group. 6 players hit double-digit points, including all 5 starters as Redeemer shot 51% from the field and 52% from 3-Pt.
Justin Lenters had 19 points and added 8 rebounds.
Redeemer will look to improve their record to .500 when they host the Niagara Knights on Friday night. The Knights will prove to be a tough test for the Royals as they enter the contest on a 4-game win streak. Game time is 8:00pm.
