For the second time in the last two matches, the Lady Royals women's basketball team has struggled to hold a lead against their opponent. On Saturday night, the Fanshawe Falcons came back from 11 down in the 3rd quarter to top the Royals 61-56. Despite the loss, the Royals have now held a lead late in the game against two of the top teams in the Province in St. Clair and Fanshawe.
A strong first half had Redeemer up 33-25 at the break with a solid performance from the Royals starters. However, a sluggish start to the 3rd quarter cost the home team as Fanshawe shot 55.6% and began to close the gap. Redeemer was outscored 21-15 in the quarter.Â
In the 4th, the Royals couldn't buy a shot, shooting 1 of 19 as Fanshawe outscored Redeemer 15-8.Â
Jesseca Brown once again led the Royals with 24 points and 8 rebounds.
Tia Bakker added 9 rebounds and 7 points.
The Royals record drops to 3-2 as they look to stop their 2-game slide on Friday when they host the Niagara Knights (OCAA 5-2). Game time is 6:00pm.Â
