Two more games under their belt and the Redeemer men's basketball team has added two more wins. Running their season record to a perfect 7-0, Redeemer's latest victims were the Niagara Knights on Wednesday and the UTM Eagles on Saturday. After knocking off the gritty Knights 78-66 at home, the Royals hit the road and toppled the Eagles 97-55.
Coming off of their historic win against the previously undefeated Humber Hawks, the Royals faced the 4-1 Knights mid-week in a battle of two teams with only 1 loss between them both. It proved to be an unpredictable back-and-forth affair with both teams suffering through some tough foul trouble. Both the Royals and the Knight had two players foul out each, while a total of 6 other players had 4 fouls. This meant that both coaches had to navigate through the match differently, managing personnel as the game was the lowest scoring total for the Royals yet this season.
After taking a 36-27 lead heading into the 2nd half, the Royals were outscored in the 3rd, giving up 24 points and scoring just 15. From that point on, it was anyone's game to win. Showing their depth, the Royals were able to grind out the win, despite scoring just two 2-point field goals in the entire second half, filling the hoop with free throws (20) and 3-pointers (6).
Zack Angus led Redeemer in the contest with a game-high 17 points.
On Saturday, Redeemer traveled to face the University of Toronto (Mississauga) Eagles for their first meeting since the home team joined the OCAA. The Royals returned to their dominant ways, scoring 97 total points.
Spencer Kerssies led the way for Redeemer, finishing with a game-high 28 points, scoring a blistering 17 points in the 1st quarter. Rookie
Elijah Lostracco also surpassed the 20-point mark with 22 of his own.
The Royals return to the court on Thursday when they travel to face the 4-3 Fanshawe Falcons at 8pm in London.
