IMPORTANT PLAYOFF STRETCH RUN FOR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BEGINS WEDNESDAY

The Lady Royals host UTM Wednesday night to kick-off important stretch for playoff positioning

The Redeemer Royals women's basketball team enter Wednesday night's match against the UTM Eagles with much anticipation. The game, kicks-off a very important stretch run for the program as they jockey for playoff positioning with one month to go in the regular season.

Currently holding a record of 4-9, Redeemer matches up against the Eagles who sit 2 points up on the Royals with a record of 5-9. The Royals have only played UTM once in team history, as the Eagles are a newcomer to OCAA Women's Basketball. The match, a 72-64 victory for the Royals, came on November 18th on the road.

Directly below UTM in the standings, a win for the Royals Wednesday night would put Redeemer in a tie with the Eagles entering the weekend. However, a 2-0 record for Redeemer head-to-head would mean they would takeover 7th in the OCAA West and leapfrog the visitors.

A win Wednesday night would set the Royals up for an important run down the stretch. With 5 more league games left on the schedule after Wednesday, the Lady Royals will need to keep the wins coming. Fortunately for them, 3 of the remaining 5 games come against opponents below Redeemer in the standings. These games, (February 9 vs Sault, February 10 vs Sault, and February 16 vs Conestoga) will be key contests on the calendar that will determine their playoff fate.

Saturday, the Royals travel to Sheridan to face the 8-6 Bruins. A win on the road would go a long way for Redeemer in challenging for 6th place in the West, however a number of scenarios would still be possible.

Wednesday night's game gets underway at 6pm.
