WOMEN DRAW, MEN SUFFER FIRST LOSS AGAINST SAINTS

St. Clair hands Men's Soccer first loss of season while Lady Royals draw on the road

The Lady Royals continued their strong play Saturday afternoon, earning a tough 2-2 draw against the St. Clair Saints in Windsor. While the Women grabbed a point on the road, the Saints took all 3 from the Redeemer Royals Men's team, handing the visitors their first loss of the season.

Scoring was not a problem for either team on Saturday, with a combined 11 goals surrendered in the two matches.

After falling behind in the 25th minute of the women's match, Redeemer eventually took a 2-1 lead with goals from Kerron Anderson (27th) and Rebekah DeHaan (50th). The Saints would tie the match in the 55th minute and both teams would fail to score again, finishing each with a point.

Redeemer's Cara Nash was stellar in net for the Royals, making a total of 15 saves in the match.

In the men's match, the Saints took a commanding 3-1 lead heading into halftime. However, the Royals found themselves right back in the match as Redeemer's Alfonso Coto scored back-to-back goals in the 55th and 58th minute to draw level with the home team. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short as the Saints notched one more in the 73rd minute to go ahead for good.

Both teams will be in search of a win Tuesday night when the squads travel to Niagara College for two big matches. The men's team has their eye on one of the top spots in the OCAA West Division, and a win Tuesday would secure it. A win for the women's team would have the Royals right back in the playoff mix.
