The Redeemer Royals Volleyball programs opened up the 2018-2019 seasons on Saturday afternoon hosting the St. Clair Saints from Windsor. The Men's team picked up right where they left off last season, with another strong performance, and a sweep of the visitors for their first win of the season.
The Royals flexed their muscles Saturday afternoon against the St. Clair Saints. Redeemer found their rhythm from the opening whistle and never stumbled. The Royals defeated the Saints in 3 sets, winning 25-19, 25-13, 25-13.
7 Royals found the scoresheet on Saturday, earning 31 kills in the 3 sets.
Brayden Stoffers,
Linden Bontkes, and
Noah Bouius all had double-digit points with 19, 10, and 10 points respectively.
Wes Schilstra anchored Redeemer's defense with 12 digs.
Redeemer travels to St. Clair on January 19th for their second meeting against the Saints.
Newcomer
Brayden Stoffers led the Royals with an impressive 19 points in the 3 short sets. Stoffers was dominate from the service line, knocking down 5 aces. He was also very efficient in attack with 12 kills on 17 attempts.
First-year setter,
Jason Wildeboer, was steady for the Royals, earning 22 assists in his first career OCAA match.
Top of the Standings for the Redeemer Royals Men's Volleyball team. Three other teams picked up opening weekend wins as the Royals share the lead with the Fanshawe Falcons and Mohawk Mountaineers.
The Royals will now have a few days to prepare for their first road match of the season. Redeemer will be in tough as they travel on Thursday to Humber to battle the Hawks. The Hawks are the reigning OCAA Silver medalists and will be a great early season test for the Royals. Thursday's match is Humber's first of the season and the team's home opener.
