Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOMINATING FIRST HALF PUSHES ROYALS PAST 4-1 FALCONS

Redeemer outscores Falcons 46-25 in first half en-route to impressive win at home.

The Redeemer Royals Men's Basketball team continued their hot play Saturday afternoon in front of their home crowd. Redeemer defeated the 4-1 Fanshawe Falcons, 77-69 for their 3rd win of the season.

The Royals came into their weekend match having defeated the CCAA #1, Sheridan Bruins the week prior. Redeemer road that momentum into Saturday's match, shooting 47% from the field in the first 20 minutes.  Redeemer dropped 46 points in the first half, holding the Falcons to just 25.

Leading 19-13 after 1 quarter, the Royals stepped on the gas in the 2nd, outscoring the Falcons 27-12. Foster Brown led the Royals in the 2nd with 9 points. Spencer Kerssies added 7.

Despite their big leading coming out of the half, the home team continued to put the pressure on the visitors. Redeemer's Jacob Vanderpol had 12 3rd quarter points, as the Royals extended their lead to 63- 41 heading into the 4th.

The Falcons came alive in the 4th, scoring 28 points in the frame, but it was too little too late as the Royals cruised to their 2nd straight win against a top OCAA West team.

Jacobus Vanderpol finished with a game-high 17 points and added 6 rebounds. Spencer Kerrsies had another double-double for the Royals, netting 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Royals held Fanshawe's Chris Parker to just 15 points. Coming into the match, Parker had scored at least 40 points in 2 of Fanshawe's last 3 matches.

With the win, the Royals keep pace with the elite in the OCAA West. Winning their last 2, Redeemer enters the week with a 3-2 record, one win behind Niagara, Fanshawe, and Sheridan. Humber remains at the top of the conference, with a 5-0 record.

Redeemer makes their way to Sault Ste. Marie for a weekend double-header against the Sault Cougars. The Royals take the court Friday night at 8pm for game one. Game two takes place Saturday with tip-off set for 2pm. Sault currently sits in last place in the OCAA West with an 0-6 record.
