After a disappointing loss Wednesday night in London against the country's number one ranked Falcons, the Royals rebounded nicely Friday night against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Redeemer ousted their Hamilton rival 3-1 in a battle of Ontario's #3 vs #5.
The Royals entered the match with a 2-2 record while the Mountaineers came in at 3-1.
Redeemer put the pressure on the visitors from the opening serve. The Royals had little trouble through the first two sets, handling the Mountaineers 25-18 and 25-14. In the 3rd, Mohawk responded with a 26-24 win before Redeemer put it away in the 4th 25-18.
Linden Bontkes was outstanding for the home squad, hitting at .516%. Bontkes finished with 19 Kills on 31 attempts with only 3 errors. He also added 6 aces.
Brayden Stoffers was also dominate for Redeemer with 17 Kills on 28 attempts.
1st year setter,
Jason Wildeboer had a career-high 37 assists in the win.
With the win, the Royals keep pace with the top teams in the OCAA West. With a 3-2 record, the Royal have lost to two teams above them in the standings with undefeated records. Their wins have them situated in a tie for 3rd place wit 6 points.
Redeemer will have the week off to prepare for a Friday night tilt at Niagara College against the Knights. The Knights are 2-3 and have won their last two matches. First serve is at 8:00pm.
