The Lady Royal finished up the 2017-2018 season on Saturday afternoon, playing their final match against the Niagara Knights. The Royals were unable to cap their season off with a win, losing 3-0 to the playoff bound Knights. With the loss, the Royals ended the year with a 3-15 record, and in 8th place in the OCAA West.
After dropping the first set 25-12, the Royals pushed the Knights to the brink in the 2nd. Redeemer took the lead 19-13 in the set, but couldn't hold off the surging Knights, losing 25-22. The 3rd set was similar to the first with Niagara winning 25-15.
The match was the final of veteran
Rebekah Oosterhof's career at Redeemer. Once again Rebekah had a strong season for the Royals at the net. She finished in 6th place in the OCAA in blocks and blocks per set. Despite her calm and caring qualities, she finishes her career as one of the most intimidating forces at the net in Redeemer history. Rebekah completes her career with the 4th most career blocks in Redeemer history at 130.
For the Royals it will be a long off-season but one of much optimism. With a motivated and strong young core, Redeemer will look to add some significant pieces over the summer to bring the team back to it's perennial playoff position.
