The Redeemer Royals Volleyball teams hosted the Conestoga Condors Friday night as the first semester continues to wind down. Two tightly contested matches finished in a split as the home team and visiting team each collected one win to kickoff the weekend.
The Royals Women's Volleyball team was the victorious home squad Friday night, earning a 3-1 win over the Condors. With the victory, the Royals moved back to .500% with a 4-4 record. The Condors dipped to 2-7.

Abby Sluys, Redeemer won a narrow first set 25-23. The Condors found some momentum in the 2nd, winning 25-21 before Redeemer stormed back to take the 3rd and 4th sets with identical 25-21 scores. Sluys finished the match with 16 points from 14 kills and 2 aces. Sluys also added a team-high 13 digs.
Jasmyn Stoffers was impressive for the Royals as well, recording 12 kills and 2 aces for 14 total points.
Alena Reenders also had double digit points with 11.
Maria VanVark finished the match with 36 assists for the home team.
After a pair of back-and-forth sets to start the game, Redeemer settled down in the 3rd and controlled most of the play for the rest of the match. After going up 2 sets to 1, the Royals built a 19-10 lead in the 4th. It appeared Redeemer would cruise to the win from there, but the Condors mounted a comeback putting the pressure back on the Royals. Conestoga would close the gap to 1 point, trailing 21-20 before the Royals closed out the match on a 4-1 run.
The Women's Volleyball team will have a chance to climb over .500 on Friday December 6th when they host the Humber Hawks. The match will be the final one before the semester comes to a close.
The Men's match pitted the Country's #11 ranked Royals against the #14 ranked Condors. The match lived up to it's competitive expectations, going the distance as the Condors fought off the Royals for a 3-2 win. It was Conestoga's first win at Redeemer since 2014.
After taking the first set comfortably, 25-16, Redeemer was outscored over the next two sets 50-37 as the Condors tallied 25-17 and 25-20 set wins. Redeemer returned to form in the 4th set, winning 25-18 and forcing a 5th and deciding set. The Royals appeared in control of the 5th set and on their way to victory as the took a 14-9 lead. However, the determined Condors survived 5 game points, forcing extra points in the 5th set. Redeemer would once again have an opportunity at 15-14 to close out the match but Conestoga survived their 6th game-point, eventually going on to win 19-17.
Brayden Stoffers was sensational again for Redeemer, recording 28 points on 18 kills, 7 aces, and 3 blocks. William Winkelhorst added 15 points for the Royals. Wesley Schilstra had a game-high 14 digs.
Judah Verbeek had a team-high 21 points for the Condors.
With the loss, the Royals were handed their second defeat of the season. Their record drops to 6-2 while Conestoga's improved to 7-2.
Redeemer will have one more match to finish out the first semester Redeemer will welcome the 8-0 Humber Hawks to Ancaster on Friday December 6th.
