Another determined effort came up short on Saturday as the Redeemer Women's Basketball team fell short of the Humber Hawks. The 16-2 Hawks defeated the shorthanded Royals 92-69.
Missing both
Tobie Brinkman and
Mikayla Blackburn for the 3rd straight game, Redeemer was in tough with just one sub off the bench.
Despite the lack of depth, the Royals put together a gutty effort, led by
Katrina Martin who had 21 points and 14 rebounds. Redeemer's
Julia Pavlik played all 40 minutes, finishing with 14 points.
Knowing that depth would be an issue for the Royals, the Hawks pushed the pace in the first half, building a 17 point lead at the midway point of the game. However, the Royals didn't back down. Each run by the Hawks was countered by a run by the Royals.Â
Redeemer kept the pressure on the visitors in the 2nd half, despite having just one player coming off the bench. Pavlik led the Royals in the 3rd, playing all 10 minutes as Redeemer scored 19 points to Humber's 21. The Royals ended strong in the 4th, being outscored by just 4 points, 20-16.Â
The Royals return to the court Wednesday night when they host the UTM Eagles in the teams final home game of the season. Redeemer will then wrap up their season Saturday when they travel to Conestoga in their season finale.Â
