ROYALS BATTLE INJURIES, SHOW GRIT IN LOSS TO FALCONS

Strong first half for Royals derailed by injuries against Falcons

The Redeemer Royals Women's Basketball team took the momentum from their matches last weekend into their midweek matchup Wednesday against the Fanshawe Falcons.

After defeating the Sault Cougars in back-to-back games on January 17-18, the Royals came out determined last night. Redeemer kept pace with the 10-1 visitors, leading 19-17 after one quarter. Katrina Martin had 12 of Redeemer's 19 points in the first quarter, shooting a perfect 3 for 3 and adding 4 free throws.

After Redeemer's Griffin Lack-Shane left the game with an injury, the Royals relied on balance scoring in the 2nd quarter. 6 Royals scored points in the 2nd quarter as Redeemer entered the half tied 38-38 with the Falcons. Unfortunately for the Royals,Tobie Brinkman left the game in the 2nd also with an injury.

With two key injuries, the gritty Royals couldn't withstand the stop scoring talent of the Falcons in the 2nd half. Fanshawe built a 64-49 lead in the 3rd quarter, eventually winning the game 84-60.

Katrina Martin finished the game with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals.

The Royals will now have a week off before traveling to Conestoga College next Thursday for a matchup against the Condors.
