A banged up Royals squad put in one of their most impressive efforts of the season Saturday in Brampton. The Royals traveled to face the Sheridan Bruins in a battle between a pair of top teams in the OCAA West.
Despite a series of injuries over the past two weeks, the Royals gutted out a road win against a very good Bruins team away from the comforts of the Redeemer gymnasium.
An even match throughout, the Royals left victorious with a four point win, 93-89. Despite being outmatched 30-15 in the 2nd quarter, Redeemer outscored the Bruins over the other 3 frames taking the first quarter 30-14, the 3rd 23-22, and the final quarter 25-23.
Jacobus Vanderpol led Redeemer with a game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds. Both the points and rebounds were season high's for Vanderpol.
With the win, the Royals move into 1st place in the OCAA West. The race for the Division title is a tight one, with 4 teams sitting with either 11 or 12 wins on the season.
The task for the Royals doesn't get any easier as the upcoming week will showcase a showdown between Redeemer and the Humber Hawks. The Hawks have won 12 straight. Two days later Redeemer will square off against the Mountaineers, sitting with a 9-5 record.
