The Redeemer Men's Basketball team has their 13th win of the season after a 90-78 win over their Hamilton rival. The Royals defeated their mountain neighbor Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at Redeemer University.
Redeemer jumped out to a 41-25 lead heading into halftime with balanced team scoring and stingy defense. The trend continued in the 3rd quarter as the Royals built on their lead, taking a 67-43 advantage into the 4th.
With the foot off the gas for the Royals in the final 10 minutes, the Mountaineers offered one last push, closing the gap on the home team. However, Redeemer's lead proved too much for the visitors, despite a 35-23 run in the final quarter.
Reigning OCAA Player of the Week
Jacobus Vanderpol continued his strong play with a 24 point effort in the win. Redeemer's Nick Green added 20 points for the Royals.
The win has the Royals in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the OCAA West with 3 league games remaining. Redeemer will finish up the regular season with a pair of road games at Canadore College on February 15th and Niagara College on February 19th, before returning home to face the St. Clair Saints in their final game of the year.
Saturday night's match also saw Redeemer's Senior athletes honored for their Royals playing careers. Graduating athletes Nick Green,
Justin Lenters, and
Spencer Kerssies were all recognized in a pregame ceremony.
