It's volleyball playoff time in the OCAA and the Redeemer Women's Volleyball team heads to Algonquin College Saturday in a winner-take-all matchup against the Thunder. The winner of Saturday's match will advance directly to the 2020 OCAA Provincial Championship.
The Canadore Panthers in North Bay, Ontario are hosting the 2020 Championships from February 27th-29th.
The Royals had an up-and-down season in 2019-2020, finishing with an 8-10 record, and in 6th place in the OCAA West. The Royals had three five-set losses in the season, falling to some of the top teams in Humber and Niagara. Redeemer's only five-set victory came on February 8th when they upset the Nationally ranked St. Clair Saints.
The Algonquin Thunder will be a formidable opponent for Redeemer and will enter the match as the favorite. The Thunder finished the season with an impressive 15-3 record, 2nd place in the OCAA East.
Redeemer is lead by the duo of outside hitters
Abby Sluys and
Jasmyn Stoffers. Both Sluys and Stoffers have had incredible seasons, finishing with 3.9 PTS/S and 3.5 PTS/S respectively. Stoffers also led the league in Aces with 50.
Algonquin counters with their own star as Rylee Leger finished just ahead of Sluys with 4.0 PTS/S for the Thunder.
The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the OCAA Quarterfinals and a date with the winner of the qualifying match between the #6 East La Cite Coyotes and the #3 West ranked St. Clair Saints.
