Royals men's basketball drops 77-69 decision to Georgian

durno-1ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University men's basketball team dropped a 77-69 decision to the Georgian Grizzlies in non-conference action at the Redeemer Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.

Redeemer led 16-9 midway through the opening quarter, before outscoring Georgian 12-2 to lead 24-11 after 10 minutes. They would extend that lead to 16 at the half 47-31.

Midway through the third quarter, the Grizzlies put together a 13-0 run to make it a one point game (54-53) with 2:30 left. The Royals closed out the third with a 7-3 run leading 61-56 after thirty minutes.

In the fourth, Georgian's offense continued to push going on a 14-3 run and leading 72-64 with two minutes left.

The Royals had four players in double digits led by first year Malachi Wayne Scott (Mississauga, ON) who finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Steven Adeyemi (Las Vegas, NV) contributed with 15 points and a career best 11 rebounds. First year Parker Davis (Hamilton, ON) chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists while Alex Naovarath (Woodstock, ON) added 13 points and four assists.

For the game, Redeemer shot 28-for-61 (45.9%) from the field, 4-for-14 (28.6%) from beyond the arc and 9-for-16 (56.3 %) from the free throw line. The Grizzlies went 28-for-59 (47.5%) from the floor, 4-for-20 (20.0%) from three-point range and 17-for-31 (54.8 %) from the charity stripe.

Redeemer opens the 2022-23 OCAA regular season next Saturday, October 22nd as they host the Lambton Lions.
