Royals women’s basketball downs Grizzlies 98-66

Julia1ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team rolled past the Georgian Grizzlies by the score of 98-66 Saturday afternoon at the Redeemer Athletic Centre. 

The Royals and Grizzlies were tied 20-20 after one quarter. Redeemer put together a 35-10 run in the second quarter, leading 55-30 at the half en route to a 32 point home victory. 

The Royals had four starters in double figures led by first year Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) who registered 21 points and eight rebounds. Second year Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Fourth year Jessica Angelini (Hamilton, ON) finished with 19 points and six rebounds while first year Serena Vitello (Hamilton, ON) added 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. The fifth starter, Steffanie Blair (Smith Falls, ON) added eight points and eight rebounds going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. 

For the game, Redeemer shot 43.8% going 35-for-80 from the field including 12-for-31 (38.7%) from three-point land. Georgian shot 33.8% (24-for-71) from the field, and 32.1% (9-for-28) from beyond the arc. The Royals forced 24 turnovers, which led to 25 points, and had 38 point s in the paint. 

The Royals open the OCAA regular season next Saturday at home when they take on the Lambton Lions.
