Redeemer women's basketball opens regular season with loss to Lambton
ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team (2-1 overall, 0-1 OCAA) dropped a 94–48 decision to the Lambton Lions in their OCAA home opener at the Redeemer Athletic Center Saturday night.
Lambton jumped out to an early 15 point lead 23-8 after one quarter, and led 57-24 at the half on route to the 46 point victory.
Leading the Royals offense was second year Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) who finished with 15 points and six rebounds. First year Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) contributed with nine points and 11 rebounds while first year Serena Vitello (Hamilton, ON) added nine points to round out the leaders.
The Lions had four players in double figures led by Breanna Pretty who recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds for the double double. Also in double figures were Maddy Bishop, Claire Dechet and Gabi Whiteye who added 15, 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Royals shot 37.0% from the field going 17-for-46. They struggled from long range shooting just 20% (3-for-15) from beyond the arc and 11-for-28 (39.3%) from the free throw line. Lambton shot 43.9% from the field going 36-for-82 and were 7-for-22 (31.8%) from three-point land. The Lions also forced Redeemer to 35 turnovers leading to 29 points and got 37 points from their bench.
Redeemer's next action is October 29th when they take on the Conestoga Condors on the road. Their next home contest is November 12th at 5pm when they play host to the Sheridan Bruins.
