Walraven adds four in Royals 6-0 victory over Mohawk
Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer Royals men's soccer team (4-4-1 overall, 3-4-1 OCAA) added five second half goals on route to a 6-0 victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers Friday night at home.
Redeemer added their first goal of the night in extra time of the opening half, as senior captain Matthew Walraven (Burlington, ON) beat Mohawk starter Oliver Steinke for his 8th goal of the season.
In the start of the second half, first year Rayan Barbosa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) found second year Gerrit Oldejans (Dundas, ON) off a corner kick for his third goal of the campaign.
Two minutes later in the 52', Barbosa would add his second assist of the night as he crossed it into the box to first year Brendan Vanderkruk (Flamborough, ON) who buried home his third goal of the season.
Redeemer took a commanding 4-0 lead in the 70th minute as Walraven stepped around Mohawk's and put it into the back of the net for his 9th goal of the year.
It was not done for Walraven, who was playing in his last regular season career game at home as a Royal.
He would add two more goals in the 84th and 86th minute, becoming the first player in school history to register four goals in a single game. He also set a new single season Redeemer points record.
In goal, second year Adam Katerberg (Listowel, ON) and graduating player Mateo Sutic (Mississauga, ON) combined for the shutout. Mohawk's Steinke added eight saves in the loss.
The Royals close out the OCAA regular season on the road next weekend as they take on St. Clair and Lambton
