Redeemer women's volleyball falls to Saints in five

pancucci-2ANCASTER, ON - THe Redeemer University women's volleyball team (5-2 overall, 3-2 OCAA) dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the visiting St. Clair Saints in front of a crowd aof 450 at the Redeemer Athletic Centre Friday night.

The Royals dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-23 and 27-25. They rallied back in sets three and for winning 25-17 and 25-16 to even the match 2-2. In the fifth and deciding set St. Clair came out on top by the score of 15-13.

The Royals had two players in double digits led by second year Rachel Annett (Melbourne, ON) wjo recorded 16 kills and 13 digs for the double-double. She also had four aces. First year Kate DeJong (St. Thomas, ON) collected 10 kills, nine digs and three blocks while fifth year Victoria Pancucci (Stoney Creek, ON) added nine kills, six digs and a career high six aces. First year Alanna Heidburt (Stoney Creek, ON) rounded out the scoring leaders adding six kills, five digs, four aces and four blocks. Second year setter Brooklyn Van Rooyen (Acheson, AB) recorded a season high 39 assists along with seven digs and three aces.

Leading St. Clair was Kiana Huggins and Ashley Maleyko who finished with 13 and 12 kills respectively as well as 12 digs each for double-doubles. Chantal DeVlugt and Geneva Huisman both added nine kills each in the road victory. 

For the match, the Royals hit .226 registering 51 kills with 23 errors on 124 attempts. St. Clair finished with 49 kills and 25 errors on 121 attempts for a .198 hitting percentage.

The Royals return to action November 16th when they are on the road versus Sheridan Bruins. The next home action is November 19th at 1pm when they host the Niagara Knights.
