Royals men's volleyball defeats Bruins in five sets

OAKVILLE, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team defeated the Sheridan Bruins in five sets Wednesday night on the road.
After dropping the first set 25-18, the Royals rallied and won the second and third sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-18. The Bruins answered in the fourth set winning it 27-25. Redeemer recorded their fourth OCAA West Division victory of the season with a 15-10 victory in the fifth and deciding set.Â
The Royals were led by third year
Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) who recorded 17 kills, six aces and five digs. First year
Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) added 12 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. He also added 3.5 blocks and two aces. Fifth year
William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) rounded out the Redeemer scoring leaders adding 11 kills, seven digs and 2.5 blocks. Second year setter
Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) handed out 47 assists while second year libero
Carsen Grim (Langley, BC) registered a season high 22 digs in the victory.
Sheridan was led by Kenma Tong and Gavin Elzinga who collected 18 and 12 kills respectively in the loss.
For the match, Redeemer recorded 53 kills with 16 errors on 123 attempts for a .301 hitting percentage. Sheridan hit .213 adding 50 kills with 24 errors on 122 attempts.Â
The Royals return to action this Saturday, November 19th at 3pm when they host the Niagara College Knights as part of the Royals SUPER SATURDAY with all teams in action at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
