ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University men's basketball team came up short in a 71-68 loss to the Niagara College Knights Saturday night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
Redeemer led 14-9 midway through the opening quarter before Niagara put together a 10-5 run to even it at 19-19. The Knights led 28-24 after 10 minutes.
Niagara would open the second quarter with five straight points to go up 33-24 and would hold a nine point lead 39-30 with four minutes left in the first half. Redeemer's offense would rally closing out the quarter with a 12-5 run, trailing 44-42 at the half.
The two teams played an even third quarter with Niagara holding a 60-58 lead. In the final seconds of the fourth, down by three 71-68, the Royals would miss a three ball from the corner as they dropped their fourth straight conference game.
Redeemer had three players in double figures led by first year
Parker Davis (Hamilton, ON) who recorded a career high 23 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. He also added five assists and five steals. Fourth
Steven Adeyemi (Las Vegas, NV) contributed with 12 points while
Robert Mannella (Burlington, ON) added 10 points in the loss.Â
The Knights were led by Kenneth Reckley and Ethan Alino Dela Cruz who both recorded 13 points each.Â
The Royals shot 38.3% (23-for-60) from the field, 38.5% (5-for-13) from beyond the arc and 77.3% (17-for-22) from the free throw line. Niagara went 29-for-68 (42.6%) from the floor, 4-for-17 (23.5%) 4-for-17 from long range and 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the charity stripe.
Redeemer returns to action next weekend when they travel to North Bay to take on Canadore Panthers November 25th and are on the road at Humber November 26th.
