ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to defeat the Humber Hawks by the score of 3-2 in front of a crowd of 350 Tuesday night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
The Royals were sporting special MOVEMBER Jerseys which were all sold to fans in advance.Â
Humber opened the match with a 25-22 victory in set one. Redeemer evened the match 1-1 as they took game two 25-21. The Hawks would go up 2-1 after responding and taking the third set 25-22.
With the match on the line, the Royals rallied in game four, taking it 25-22 and came from behind in the fifth and deciding set winning it 20-18. With the win, Redeemer improves to 5-3 in the OCAA West Division.
The Royals offense was led by third year
Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) and fifth year
William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) who both registered 13 kills each. Jenkins also added eight digs, four aces and two blocks. First year
Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) chipped in with 10 kills and seven digs. Second year setter
Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) recorded 41 assists and second year libero
Carsen Grim (Langley, BC) added 14 digs in the victory.
Redeemer closes out the first half the OCAA regular season at home on December 2nd at 8pm versus the Conestoga Condors at the Redeemer Athletic Centre. They open the second half of the regular season at home against crosstown rival the Mohawk Mountaineers on January 12th at 8pm.Â
