Redeemer will get their first taste of volleyball action this weekend as the 2021-2022 season gets underway in Ancaster. The Women's and Men's Volleyball teams host the Cambrian Golden Shield on Friday, February 11 and the Boreal Vipers on Saturday, February 12.
The Women's team, led by 8-year head coach
Brad Douwes shares, " the compact season is going to test every program's depth and require contributions from many players. Our team is prepared to take on the challenge of the OCAA West and we have our sights set on earning an OCAA medal.Â
The Women's Volleyball team will be led by 5th year
Abby Sluys and 4th
Jasmyn Stoffers. Both have already established themselves very well in their OCAA careers, earning OCAA All-Star status. Both will be looking to add team success to their individual accolades. The Royals have also added key transfers
Emily Aitken and
Victoria Pancucci. Aitken and Pancucci bring playing experience and on-court leadership to the Royals. They are also joined by transfer
Dana Tucci, who adds a calm and mature leadership presence to the gym everyday.Â
The incoming players add a level of athleticism and talent which compliments the senior athletes nicely.
Brooklyn Van Rooyen will take the court for her first time as Royal this weekend leading the offence of a team that has strong options in all positions. Her decision-making skills and positive demeanor will enhance othe team's ability to be successful. With her come a trio of first years,
Hannah Berg,
Rachel Annett and
Alyson Stolte who all hold the ability to influence a match. This team also finds depth in 3rd year
Erica Bultje and 1st years
Carlene Cecchelli,
Julia Koksanowicz and
Leah Siebenga.
With a number of new additions, the Women's Volleyball team boast more depth than in the past and will hope to use it to be a top contender all season long.Â
On the Men's side, led by 1st year coach
Eli Tolkamp, the men have their sights set on a deep push into the playoffs. Tolkamp states that a season like this "will require immense focus and dedication over a short period of time. Our goal is to remain healthy as the nature of the season depends on it."Â
The Men's side is led by the trio of
Jason Wildeboer,
Brayden Stoffers and
Daniel Wolfert. Tolkamp will look to them to push forward the vision and goals of this year's Men's squad. Wildeboer will be tasked with running the offence of a very physical and strong Royals hitting line-up, which will be key to their success. Leading the charge on the attack is
Brayden Stoffers. Stoffers has already established himself well within the OCAAÂ being name an OCAA West All-star in multiple seasons. Lastly,
Daniel Wolfert will be looked at to lead the Royals defensive side with a calm and steady demeanor. The trio will also be backed up by the depth of outside hitters
Brett Jenkins and
William Winkelhorst.Â
