Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BASKETBALL REMAINS IN THE WIN COLUMN

Curtiss Straatsma

It was a winning night in the Redeemer Athletic Centre for the Women's and Men's Basketball teams. Both teams faced off against the Conestoga Condors and came out on top.

The Women's game was a gritty back and forth contest with the Condors for the first half. Heading into half-time the Royals were down 30 - 34. The women came out strong in the third quarter with a 12-1 run over the Condors to take control of the scoreboard. The women never wavered from their strong third quarter and were able to secure the victory with a final score of 66 - 53.

Stephanie Findlay led the charge for the Royals recording a double-double with 26 total points and 17 rebounds. Findlay's effort was backed by Karyn TeBrake, scoring 18 total points and Jessica Angelini adding 16 total points.

Ramla Abdalla was the leading scorer for the Condors with 19 total points.

The men's game saw the Condors push the Royals hard for the full 40 minutes. The Royals were down 29 - 35 headed into the half. Hoping to regroup after a tough first half the men still seemed to be struggling to find their rhythm. With just under 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Condors held a 13-point lead. The Royals dug deep to claw themselves back up to take over the lead with just 1 minute and 30 seconds left on the clock. The Royals finished the game in the win column with a score of 85 - 80.

Four Royals recorded double digits for the team. The Royals were led by Foster Brown, recording a double-double from 21 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Brinkley, Will Dykstra and Goran Veselinovic added 19, 17, and 12 total points respectively helping secure the win.

Basketball is back in action this Friday; February 18 at Redeemer as the Women host the Condors for a back-to-back battle and the Men will host the Canadore Panthers.
