The Women's volleyball team ranked #6 in the OCAA West, travelled to Sudbury Thursday to take on the #3 ranked Cambrian Golden Shield in the first round of OCAA post-season action. The Royals and the Shield had clashed earlier in the regular season seeing the Shield come out on top of a 5-set thriller. Tonight, the tides changed.
The Royals came out of the gate strong in the first two sets, starting each with a commanding lead that the Shield could not close. Redeemer looked in fine form and that they might complete the upset in 3 straight sets. The Golden Shield were formidable opponents and took the 3rd set over the Royals. The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams seeing the lead switch several times. The Royals, with excellent serving pressure, were able to close out the 4th and final set to take the match 3 sets to 1 and complete the upset.
This win punches the team's ticket to the OCAA Quarter Finals. The team will travel to North Bay on Saturday to take on the #2 OCAA East ranked Canadore Panthers. The match will get underway at 1 pm. Make sure to catch all the action on the live stream.
