ROYALS FALL IN BRONZE MEDAL MATCH, FINISH FOURTH

Redeemer finishes 4th in 2021-2022 OCAA Championship

For the third time in four years, the Redeemer Royals have finished 4th at the OCAA Men's Basketball Championships. Redeemer was defeated Thursday evening by the #3 Wast ranked Lambton Lions in the Bronze Medal match 82-75.

Another strong season for the Royals comes to a disappointing end. After winning their quarterfinal match last Saturday afternoon against the George Brown Huskies, Redeemer couldn't find a way to defeat the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the OCAA West. Redeemer dropped a 110-97 decision Wednesday to the #2 West ranked St. Clair Saints.

Thursday's game was a battle of attrition, as both teams were playing their 3rd game in a week. The Royals came out strong and took a 20 - 15 lead into the 2nd quarter. However, it was the Lions who narrowly led going into the half, 42-40. It was a back and forth battle in the third seeing the Royals close out a 7-point lead held by the Lions. The game was all tied up at 62 headed into the 4th quarter. The Royals came out strong again in the 4th taking an early lead. With only 3 minutes left in play, the game was again tied at 72-72 looking like the outcome could go either way. Lambton had one last push left in them that the Royals could not find an answer for.

Isaiah Brinkley had 19 points and 7 rebounds while Goran Veselinovic added 18. Blake Anderson also finished with double-digit points recording 16.

Isaiah Brinkley was awarded the player of the game in the loss to the Lions.

Despite advancing to the OCAA Championship semifinals this season as well as in 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 Redeemer has yet to break through for an OCAA medal. With the loss, Redeemer is still looking for their first OCAA medal in program history.

Thursday's match was the last for graduating student-athlete Foster Brown.
