ROYALS END HOME SCHEDULE WITH A SWEEP OVER THE FALCONS

It was an electric night in the Redeemer gymnasium as the Royals welcomed the Fanshawe Falcons in their last regular-season home game. We took time this night to recognize the hard work and dedication of 5 graduating volleyball athletes; Makayla Homan, Abby Sluys, Dana Tucci, Jasmyn Stoffers, Daniel Wolfert and Jason Wildeboer.

The women started the night with a 5 set thriller. With their regular season coming to an end and sitting with a 2-4 record the Royals were in the hunt for a victory to secure the best spot possible in the first round of playoffs.

Redeemer started the night off strong against the Falcons taking control of the opening set from the first point and securing the first set win with a score of 25 - 18. The Falcons however stormed back in the 2nd and 3rd sets taking them with scores of 17-25 and 18-25. The Royals were not ready to give up. Looking a lot more like they did in the first set the Royals  stormed back in the 4th and took the set 25-14. Entering the 5th set the energy in the gym was palpable. Going point-for-point for the first 5 points it was going to be a fight. The Royals took control after 8 points and didn't look back securing the victory with a 15-10 score in the 5th set. This victory improves the Women's Volleyball record to 3-4. The Royals will need to recoup quickly as they are headed to Niagara College today to take on the Knights.

The team was led by senior athlete Abby Sluys and rookie Hannah Berg each recording 16 total points on the night.

The Men's volleyball team was looking to stretch their win streak to 5 with a win over the Falcons last night. The Falcons were coming in with an overall record of 5-2, sitting fourth in the OCAA West division. The Royals were looking for a win to help solidify a second-place standing in the OCAA West division.

The Royals took care of business last night over the Falcons with a 3-0 sweep. The Royals took the first set with a score of 25-20. The Falcons did take the lead in both the 2nd and 3rd sets and it looked like they would be able to steal a set from the Royals but the Men fought back at the end of both sets taking them with scores of 26-24 and 28-26.

The Men were led by Brett Jenkins who recorded 15 total points in 3 sets.

The Men will finish their regular season today against the Niagara Knights in Welland, ON.
