Royals women's soccer falls to Sheridan 2-1
Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the visiting Sheridan Bruins in there OCAA homeopener at David Mendal Field Saturday night in front of 450 fans.
Sheridan opened the scoring just one minute into the first half as Celina Barnard put it past fourth year Redeemer starter Lilly Brown (Stoney Creek, ON) for her first goal of the season.
Redeemer would get some strong chances in the first half, but it was Sheridan goalkeeper Kennedy Peddie coming up with some key saves to keep the score 1-0 in favour of the Bruins at the half.
The Royals would tie the game 1-1 in the 65th minute as first year Talia Vreugdenhil (Frankford, ON) added her first career OCAA goal of the regular season.
Redeemer would get a key opportunity to take the lead as they were awarded a penalty shot in the 72nd minute. The Royals would go with first year midfielder Emily Walraven (Burlington, ON) but it was Peddie coming up with a clutch safe on the PK to keep the score deadlocked 1–1.
In the final few minutes, the Bruins would put some pressure on the Redeemer defense and capitalized in the 90th minute on a redirected goal from Grace Makarewicz which would slide past the fingertips of the Royals Brown for the 2-1 road victory.
Brown finished with five saves in the loss, while Peddie collected seven saves for the win.
The Royals are back in action September 14th when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers at Tim Horton's Field.
