Redeemer men's soccer drops 4-1 decision to No. 5 Conestoga

walraven-action1KITCHENER, ON - The No. 10 ranked Redeemer University men's soccer team (2-2-1 overall, 1-2-1 OCAA) dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 5 Conestoga Condors Thursday night on the road.

The Royals open the scoring at the 36 minute mark, as second year Gerrit Oldejans (Dundas, ON) setup third year Matthew Walraven (Burlington, ON) who buried it past Conestoga goalkeeper Pedja Jovicic, for his team leading six goal of the season.

In the final minute of the first half, the Condors evened the game 1-1 with a goal from Kurtis Amorim. Noah Williams added the assist.

Conestoga outshot Redeemer 19-8 (7-4 SOG) in the opening half.

In the second half the Condors controlled the pace of the game and took a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute as Luca Romano beat Royals second year goalkeeper Mateo Sutic (Mississauga, ON).

Conestoga would add two more goals in the 77th and 84th minute with tallies from Romano and Arhyel Mshelia.

In goal, Sutic suffered the loss finishing with a season high nine saves. Jovicic collected four saves for the victory.

The Royals next action is this Saturday, September 24th at 2pm when they host the No. 1 nationally ranked Humber Hawks at TIM HORTONS FIELD.
