Ancaster, ON – The Redeemer University men's volleyball team (7-5 OCAA West) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cambrian Golden Shield Friday night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
The Royals won the opening set by the score of 25-22. Cambrian answered by winning the next three by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-22. With the loss, Redeemer falls to 7-5 and the Golden Shield improves to 9-3 in the OCAA West Division.
Third year
Brett Jenkins (Peterborough, ON) led the Royals offense registering 17 kills, 10 digs and five serve aces. In the Royals record book, Jenkins five aces moves him up five spots into a tie for second in single season aces with 37. First year
Derick Breukelman (Burlington, ON) recorded 14 kills, three blocks and two aces while fourth year
William Winkelhorst (Newcastle, ON) collected 10 kills, five digs and four aces. Second year setter
Andrew Van Dyke (Guelph, ON) handed out 45 assists in the loss.
Cambrian was led by Sven Trodel who recorded 15 kills and seven digs. Kurtis Brisebois added nine kills and 10 digs in the victory.
As a team, the Royals had a .224 hitting percentage adding 49 kills with 23 errors on 116 attempts. Cambrian recorded 45 kills with 28 errors on 116 attempts for a .147 hitting efficiency.
The Royals next action is Saturday, January 21 at 3 PM, when they host the Boreal Vipers at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
