Royals women's soccer fall to Conestoga in playoff shootout

ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University women's soccer team dropped a playoff heartbreaker in shootout to the visiting Conestoga Condors in shootout Wednesday night in front of a home crowd of 300 at David Mantel Field.

The Royals controlled 75 percent of the play during the regulation outshooting Conestoga 17-4 overall (7-2 on goal). The Royals had two key scoring opportunities rattling one of the post and on a header off a corner kick which Conestoga's Madeleine Sloan came up with a clutch save.

After 30 more minutes of overtime the score remained deadlocked 0-0 sending it to shootout.

In shootout, the Royals would miss their first and last shot over eight shooters deep with Conestoga's Autumn Klimsiak adding the game winner to come away with the upset over the No. 4 seeded Royals. Conestoga advances to play the top seeded Seneca Sting on the road Saturday in the OCAA Quarter-Finals.

In goal, fifth year senior Lilly Brown registered two saves while the Condors Sloan finished with a game high seven saves for the victory.

The Royals end the OCAA season with a school best 5-2-4 record.
