Oldejans leads Royals men's soccer past Niagara 6-2

WELLAND, ON - The Redeemer University men's soccer team defeated the Niagara College Knights by the score of 6-2 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Royals midfielder Gerrit Oldejans had a career game as he led the way with a career high three goals for a six point performance. Oldejans put Redeemer on the board first 9:32 into the opening half as he beat Niagara goalkeeper Sean Darracott. Less than two minutes later at 11:24, Oldejans would make it 2-0 Redeemer. He would close out the hat trick, at 13:26 of the opening half, registering three goals in a span of 3 minutes and 44 seconds, a new Redeemer record. He now has a team leading five goals on the season.

At 15:24 of the first half, Redeemer would take a commanding four goal lead, as Derek Proulx setup captain Hunter Packalen who recorded his third goal of the season.

Niagara got on the board in the 17th minute as Nate Smyth recorded his second goal of the season.

Mohamed Sesay would beat Darracott to put the Royals up 5-1 at 25:26, with Kieran Wilson adding his second assist of the contest. In the 72nd minute Zion Brown found the foot of Stephen Barnhoorn who made it 6-1 Redeemer.

The Knights closed out the scoring in the 81st minute with a goal from Mike DiMaurizio.

Niagara outshot Redeemer 21-17, but it was first year Royals netminder Matthew Derks coming up with a game high 12 saves for the victory. Darracott finished with four saves in the loss.

The Royals return to action October 11th when they host the Sheridan College Bruins on Senior Night at David Mantel Field.
