Ancaster, ON - The Redeemer University men's volleyball team emerged victorious in a five-set showdown against Humber, ultimately winning the game with a score of 3-2. The match, which took place in front of a hometown crowd of 300.
The game saw Redeemer taking an early lead with a 25-21 victory in the first set. However, Humber bounced back strongly in the second set, securing a convincing 25-17 win. The momentum continued to favor Humber as they claimed the third set with a score of 25-21, taking a 2-1 lead in sets.
Redeemer battled back and clinched the fourth set 25-23, leveling the match at 2-2. The fifth set was a nail-biter, with Redeemer ultimately prevailing with a 15-9 score, sealing the home court win.
Leading the Royals offense were
Jonah Heidburt and
Derick Breukelman who finished with 18 and 16 points. Heidburt contributed with 10 kills, five blocks and three aces while Breukelman added 11 kills, 2 aces and three blocks.
Simon Bourne chipped in with eight kills and seven digs while
Caleb Joosse added five kills and five blocks.
Andrew Van Dyke setup the offense registering 32 assists and six digs.
Carsen Grim stood out defensively finishing with ten digs.
*For Humber , Maximum Crowder and Marcus Morgan both recorded nine kills. Josh Nicholson handed out 31 assists in the loss.
For the match, Redeemer hit .195 adding 36 kills with 19 errors on 87 attempts. Humber collected 42 kills with 26 errors on 99 attempts for a .162 hitting percentage.
The Royals return to action Saturday, November 4th when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers on the road.
