KITCHENER, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team secured a commanding victory against Conestoga with a final score of 64-40. Redeemer improved to a 2-2 record while Conestoga remained winless at 0-4.
The first quarter, Conestoga took an early 8-6 lead. Redeemer quickly responded in the second quarter, outscoring Conestoga 18-17, and taking a 26-23 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be a turning point, as Redeemer continued to extend their lead with a strong offensive performance, scoring 17 points while limiting Conestoga to six. Heading into the final quarter, the score stood at 49-40 in favor of Redeemer.
In the fourth quarter Redeemer outscored Conestoga 24-8, sealing a convincing 64-40 victory.
Royals guard
Jessica Angelini led her team with a season high 30 points, including six three-pointers, while also contributing four assists and three steals.
Talia Vreugdenhil recorded a double-double adding 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Sydney Drain and
Katie Lau rounded out the scoring adding eight and six points respectively.
For Conestoga, Alicia Bujold was the top performer with 14 points and six rebounds.
Overall, Redeemer's shooting accuracy (32.8% field goals, 47.1% three-pointers, 70.6% free throws) and solid team defense were the keys to their victory.
The Royals are on the road Saturday, November 4th when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers.
