ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team dropped a tough 52–50 decision to the Fanshawe Falcons Wednesday night in the regular season home opener.
The Royals led 17–11 after the opening 10 minutes and held a one point lead at the half 26–25.
In the third quarter, Fanshawe took a 41–40 lead after 30 minutes.
In the final quarter, Fanshawe held a 50–47 lead with 15 seconds remaining. Redeemer's Sydney Drain knocked down to three pointer with 5.9 seconds left to tie it 50-50. After a Falcons time out, Edith Eseme knocked down the game winner at the buzzer.
Redeemer had three players in double digits. Katie Lau registered 15 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Drain added 13 points and three rebounds while Jessica Angelini contributed with 11 points, five rebounds and five steals. Mia Palango added 13 rebounds and seven assists in the loss.
For the game, Redeemer went 20–58 34.5% from the floor 5–17, 29.4% from long range and 5–7, 71.4% from the charity stripe. Fanshawe shot 34.3%, 23–67 from the field, 23.5% 4-17 from three point range and 18.2%, 2–11 from the free throw line.
The Royals are in action Saturday November 16th at 6pm when threy host the Mohawk Mountaineers.
