Redeemer women's soccer falls to No. 1 seed Mid-America Christian 5-1

FLORIDA - In their first ever school appearance The No. 4 seeded Redeemer University women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to the No. 1 seed Mid-American Christian University at the 2023 NCCAA DI Women's Soccer National Championships in Florida Tuesday.

MACU opened the scoring in the 7th minute as Annika Gerdau added her first of the championships. Maria Alonso would make it 2-0 for Mid-America in the 38th minute.

Redeemer's Mia Palango would cut the lead to one, 2-1, as she beat Rachel Torres in the 51st minute.

MACU would add to more in the 58th and 59th minutes to go up 4-1 with goals from Jasie Eischen and Gerdau with her second of the game. Mid-America closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute with a tally from Alissa Taylor. 

In goal, Redeemer starter Liberty Dendekker recorded two saves in the loss. Mid-America's Torres turned aside three of the four shots she faced for the win.

Redeemer outshot Mid-America 15-14 (4-7 SOG) in total.

The Royals finish the 2023 season with one of the best finishes in the program's history.
