ANCASTER, ON - The Redeemer University men's basketball team ended the first half of the OCAA regular season with a 95-71 loss to the Fanshawe Falcons Tuesday night at the Redeemer Athletic Centre.
Fanshawe opened with a quick start and led 32-10 after one quarter. Redeemer outscored the Falcons in both the second and fourth quarters but could not overcome the first quarter deficit.
Robert Mannella and
Armeen Fazelipour led the Royals scoring. Mannella finished with 22 points and four steals while Fazelipour added 19 points and five rebounds.
Jackson Thackwray added eight points, game high nine assists, four rebounds and three steals while
Alex Naovarath and
Jason Usuomon chipped in with eight and seven points respectively.
Fanshawe had six players reach double digits led by Aidan Whalen who added 20 points and seven rebounds. Jack Tunstill and Blake Roy both contributed with 16 points while Terence Williams (14 points), Mickey Griffiths (13 points) and Josh Loblaw (12 points) rounded out the scoring.
For the game, Redeemer shot 39.7% (27-68) from the floor, 28.6% (6-21) from beyond the arc and 52.4% (11-21) from the free throw line. Fanshawe went 37-68 (54.4%) from the field, 7-21 (33.3%) from three-point land and 82.4% (14-17) from the charity stripe.
The Royals will return to action in the new year when they take on Canadore and Humber January 12 and 13.
