Windsor, ON - The Redeemer University women's basketball team fell to the St Clair Saints by the score of 67-60 Friday night on the road. With the loss, their record drops to 5-11.
Redeemer had a strong opening half as they led 32-24 at the break.Â
In the third quarter, St. Clair went on a 17-4 run in the opening six minutes and held a 47-39 lead after 30 minutes. In the final frame, the Royals would bring it to within five points three different times, but the Saints would hold on for the seven point home victory.
"We executed our game plan to perfection in the first half," said Royals head coach
Jesse VanHouwelingen. "We won three of the four quarters, but really struggled in the third. We played well overall as a team, but couldn't recover from the rough third quarter."
The Royals had three players in double figures led by second year
Karyn TeBrake (Ottawa, ON) who recorded 13 points, four rebounds and tied the school record for most assists in a game with a career best 11 assists. First year
Julia Stayshyn (Dundas, ON) contributed with 13 points and nine rebounds while second year
Avery Cline (Grimsby, ON) added 13 points, including a career best 3-for-5 from long range.
St. Clair had four starters in double digits led by Alyssa Lucier who recorded a game high 17 points.
For the game, Redeemer shot 31.9% (23-72) from the field, 18.9% (7-37) from beyond the arc and 63.6% (7-11) from the free throw line. St. Clair went 27-85 (31.8%) from the floor, 7-31 (22,.6%) from three point land and 6-12 (50.0%) from the charity stripe.
The Royals return to action Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when they take on the Lambton Lions on the road .
